Stephen Meuller

The Rebecca Ibel Gallery is delighted to present the rich and sensuous paintings of Stephen Mueller. These new works have a meditative quality blending a contemporary sensibility with interests in Eastern philosophy. New York Times critic Holland Cotter has described his work as, “mysterious without being mystifying, suave but sweet-humored, as art-savvy version of visionary.”

Since 1970, New York based Stephen Mueller’s work has been widely exhibited in galleries and curated exhibitions with a retrospective in 2003 at the Joslyn Art Museum in Omaha, Nebraska and the Whitney Biennial in 1995. Mueller has been recognized with many awards such as the Pollack-Krasner Foundation Fellowship in 2002 and his work can be found in numerous private and public collections including The Brooklyn Museum of Art, The Whitney Museum of American Art, the Portland Art Museum and the Progressive Corporation. Based in New York, this is the artist’s first exhibition with the gallery.
